Pista ng Patay tops Overplay Rock Charts!

One of the reasons I love Mistula is because each song is unlike anything I’ve heard before - I can never imagine what you’ll be bestowing upon us next and each and every time it is such a fantastic suprise. I am in so much love with all the different sounds and moods that have been mixed Pista ng Patay - it is such a fanastic experience being able to listen to it. The contrast between the holy and not-so-holy, as you have put it, is presented in such a wonderful fashion and blends so well into this gorgeous song. But it’s not just a song - it’s poetry and dialouge and nearly 8 minutes of pure awesome.

Pista ng Patay (Feast Day of the Dead) has been on top of the Overplay Rock Charts for two weeks since its release. Thank you for listening!

Mistula November Update: Pista ng Patay

Posted in Pista ng Patay on November 17th, 2006 by webmessiah – Be the first to comment

Mistula comes out with horns-a-blowing, big band-a-marching, and all-around fiesta mood-a-swaying as they celebrate Pista ng Patay, Feast Day of the Dead, Philippine-style!

As with previous Mistula web updates, Feast Day of the Dead features a website-wide set of concept-driven works centered around themes uniquely Filipino.

The first week of November is very sacred to the Filipino people, as this is the time to remember and honor their dead loved ones. A Presidentially-declared nationwide non-working holiday, early November is usually spent flocking to the cemeteries, lighting candles, saying prayers and giving utmost respect to the departed. Oddly enough, amidst all the reserved solemnity is a more upbeat, fun, almost fiesta-like celebration of restless people whiling their time away gambling with card games, gorging on street food and singing karaoke.

The peculiar convergence of serious and fun; holy and not-so-holy, sets the mood for this new set of Mistula creations, central of which is their new almost-8-minuter poem/song, Pista ng Patay the longest and most ambitious the band has done to date. It will be an exclusive Overplay release.

Building around the concept is a website art-overhaul which introduces and incorporates the band’s newest member, wild Brit-boy, Lobo, fresh from the Mistula auditions. This is also the first time Mistula has collaborated with the Filipino artist and well-known istambay, Fabo and his Second design crew.

Update highlights also include a new narrative fiction by award-winning writer, Elvin Bueno, exclusive Mistula-inspired artworks by featured artist, Sin, and all-new Mistula wallpapers by Second.

Mabuhay ang mga pataaay! Piesta na namaaaaan!
Long live the dead! It’s fiesta-time once agaaaain!
