The third typhoon in a series hit the Philippines on December 3, and work was cancelled, making my birthday a non-working holiday. But the news and the weather made it too gloomy to party, so we huddled at home in relative quiet. I still received e-cards and gifts from close friends, and those were enough to brighten my day.
