How To Fold A Paper Crane

Origami is one of the gentler arts – part-geometry, part-Zen.

It will help quiet your mind, so you can make better music, Manx,
or in your case, Veritas, keep you busy so you stay out of trouble.

Today, I will teach you how to fold a tsuru.

Teacher, may I go out?

Hmm, there has to be a shortcut to that.

It is done.

Can it fly?
No, this is a traditional Japanese paper crane.
It looks like the Loch Ness monster.

Okay, now you both try it.

Several minutes later.

I made modifications. Mine can fly!

Um, it looks like it will.
Let ‘er fly!

Go Super Crane Figher Jet!

I made a baby crane.

Wonderful! Let’s – uh.

It’s a crane egg.

Lesson of the day: Origami is not for everybody.

July 26th, 2005 - 19:26
Manx’s baby crane egg is the best XD
Uno, like everyone else, you look wonderful in that outfit.
And you origami skills rock.
July 27th, 2005 - 20:44
Thank you! I worked very hard to make the crane egg!
July 26th, 2005 - 19:27
Uno, I know I’ve told you a thousand times before but I LOVE YOU! I REALLY DO! X33
And I’m so glad you’re back! *HUGS!*
July 27th, 2005 - 20:45
Aw, thanks for keeping it here. *hugs*
July 26th, 2005 - 19:32
Manx you win 2, no 3 internets. You own Bill Gates. You own Muhammad Ali. You reign supreme over paper.
July 27th, 2005 - 20:47
And someday I will own you, Shiro. Let us make baby cranes together.
July 28th, 2005 - 21:33
That sounds so wroooooooooong, Manx x_x
July 26th, 2005 - 19:35
Unoooo! he looks so good in that wig
July 27th, 2005 - 20:48
Thanks, Claudia! X3
July 26th, 2005 - 19:48
I know how to make paper cranes too, but your is much nicer Uno. XD Mine always end up with deformed beaks XD I like Manx’s egg and Veritas’ jet too, heehee! XD
July 27th, 2005 - 20:51
Practice (and good origami paper) makes perfect! It also helps not to look at Manx’s and Veritas’ work as examples. (=_=)
July 26th, 2005 - 20:17
never learned how to make paper cranes, only know how to make paper frogs… -_-;;;
July 27th, 2005 - 20:56
Why don’t you join my origami class? I need proper students.
July 26th, 2005 - 20:42
Waiii!! origami!!!
…
Hehe… nice paper cranes! I don’t know how to make paper cranes, only paper rabbits…
Oh, and that DOESN’T have anything to do with Shuri having lots of bunnies at home. It’s all purely coincidence. *nods*
…
really!!!
July 27th, 2005 - 20:59
Maybe you can make Shuri join our class. And tell him to bring me an extra sandwich. With peanut butter and jelly, please.
July 28th, 2005 - 22:40
We… uhhh… don’t have jelly… ^^; (No one here eats PB&J sanwiches… How does that even taste? @__@) So how ’bout sandwich with peanut butter (the crunchy one, not the smooth one…) and no jelly instead?
July 29th, 2005 - 01:05
You’ve tasted Peanut Butter Stripe, right? That’s a funkier version of PB&J spread. Yummy!
July 26th, 2005 - 21:27
So cute!!! *fangirls all over Uno*
I love Manx’s egg! LOL!
Rachie
July 27th, 2005 - 21:02
Thanks, Rachie! Welcome back!
July 26th, 2005 - 21:48
i loved this photo story.
i love the pic with the 2 stuffed toys too. esp loved the one of them sending off the paper plane..
oh too many elements i am in love with.
July 27th, 2005 - 20:59
I hope I’m one of them, Yuito.
July 28th, 2005 - 00:33
Manx, if only you were a one man kinda woman
July 28th, 2005 - 18:15
I can be one if you want me to. But can you be a one-woman man? Especially with Etsuko around?
July 26th, 2005 - 22:01
LOL!
Gosh, Uno’s got his hands full with those too
I love the action shot where Veritas lets her “bird” fly, heehee.
July 27th, 2005 - 21:06
That’s a lame prototype. My next one will have rocket boosters! >: ]
July 27th, 2005 - 05:21
God Uno is HAWT!
July 27th, 2005 - 21:07
Glad to see you here, Mercy! (^^)
July 27th, 2005 - 08:38
Paper crane egg! That’s awesome! XD
July 27th, 2005 - 21:08
A breakthrough in origami, I must say.
July 27th, 2005 - 09:37
Yay! I wonder when will the egg hatch….
*imagines a paper crane following Manx around and calls her … MOMMY!!!!*
July 27th, 2005 - 21:09
If she sits on it long enough, maybe it will hatch.
July 27th, 2005 - 21:10
If she sits on it, it will become a fried paper crane egg.
July 27th, 2005 - 11:11
I’m so glad the blog is back up and working again! I missed reading it with my little ones ^^ Hrmm, maybe it’s time for ME to break out the oragami again… I once got one of my friends a “Dirty Oragami” book. Maybe I’ll ask to borrow it…
Uno looks GORGEOUS!!! Blake’s jealous… does your aunt take commissions by any chance? Not that it would matter if she did.. I’m utterly broke from buying new things for them XD
July 27th, 2005 - 21:14
Oh, she takes commissions from us! She also makes clothes for our friends from time to time. (^^)
July 27th, 2005 - 14:29
Manx is utterly adorable. =D
July 27th, 2005 - 21:15
*hugs*
July 27th, 2005 - 21:08
I am so amused that I’m laughing til it hurts.
July 27th, 2005 - 21:16
Now I can sleep fulfilled, Mainey.
July 28th, 2005 - 01:46
Subject: First time posting
*lol* you guys sure r am00sing. makes me wanna get a couple of ur kind for myself and name ‘im Renzo and ‘er Tina…or something.
oh yeah, read that you’re an ECD in ur day job. must be nice hvin a CD like u (or could be a 180). my old CD (well old as of tmrw, today’s my last day with my current firm) ain’t so great…but I think my new one should be decent at least (yep, movin on to greater and better–i hope—things). anyway, with a boss like u, ur human can’t really complain…i think.
July 28th, 2005 - 18:36
Renzo and Tina do sound quite … unique. I gather from the way you type that you’re from the Philippines?
July 29th, 2005 - 01:31
lol close but no cigar, me mate. well i AM from the south -east asian region still…hmm, look slightly further north from Singapore and you’ve prolly nailed it. ^_~
and actually that’s not how i usually talk/type…it really depends on me mood. like my mood is different now… so i type different.
unique…ya think so? Renzo’s short for Lorenzo and Tina’s short for Concertina (Harry Belafonte is a legend). I used to think that’s what I’d name my kids if I really do end up having some…xxD…but i’m not sure if they’d appreciate it.
anyway, nice work on the origami. you’ve got some very nimble and precise fingers there. maybe it’s the resin…
July 31st, 2005 - 13:20
You are from Malaysia?
Well, I think know around 5 Renzos and 101 Tinas (Turner included), but each of them are unique in their own way. (^^)
July 30th, 2005 - 22:04
nice try Uno…a good observation… but its close
well Uno, if you’re looking for a Filipino well here I am! nd it’s tru if u c dis kind of typng u’ll defnitely think a pinoy is behind it.. ^_^ it’s because filipinos are very fond of using cellphones, specifically texting…right? i’m sure Joey agrees with me…=P
July 31st, 2005 - 13:13
Joey believes that text slang with bring about the decline of our civilization, and discouraged everyone around her from using it. She thinks the feature, predictive texting, is a wonderful thing.
Welcome to my strange world, Mitchy.
August 2nd, 2005 - 14:01
ooh double postin’, i see. but it’s ur blog. *shrugs*
hmmm…who carez wut Joey believes. this blog is abt u. weren’t u the one who made Joey the great person she is today?
…or was that jst my own impression alone?
xxxxxxxxxD
August 2nd, 2005 - 14:04
I would urge that you show some respect to my Creator. Joey is my soul. Without her, I am nothing.
August 2nd, 2005 - 21:39
x.X so it *was* my impression alone…
okies then, *kowtows to Joey*
…better?
August 2nd, 2005 - 21:45
hmmm double postin now…hope you dun mind too much but come to think of it…you’re right. without Joey, there would be no /you/ you…well there’d prolly still be a you physically but you’d hv a whole ‘nother personality, i’d reckon.
hmmm…sorry hope i didn’t offend Her too much ^^;; *leaves Joey some peanut butter cookies*
August 2nd, 2005 - 19:11
There’s such a thing as a Peanut Butter stripe? @_@ Hehe… The only things I look for when I go to the grocery store are potato chips and baking ingredients… >__> (I’m a junkie, I admit it… XP)
August 3rd, 2005 - 11:21
Yes, there is such a thing as Lady’s Choice Peanut Butter Stripe. It’s hard to miss. It’s peanut butter with … um, stripes!
August 3rd, 2005 - 23:46
‘Kay… I’ll keep an eye out next time I go with my mom… ^^ Then we can make you the promised sandwich! ^__^v
August 5th, 2005 - 17:49
Yup, I saw those too, but i’m not a fan of PB and J. If i’ll find one Verchiel and I will make you guys PB and J sandwiches, (freshly baked bread of course). Hmm with or w/o crusts??
August 6th, 2005 - 03:56
No crusts, please, thank you! : P
August 4th, 2005 - 19:48
Hi Uno! I’ve admired you for so long but I did not have the courage to actually talk to you so this is the first time ^_^ i like the origami and i’m kind of jealous because you are so good and i flunked arts and crafts because of my broken crane >_
August 4th, 2005 - 22:13
Hi Jazelle! Thank you for visiting. If you need help with origami, you know where to find me!
