Mistula On Film
While the ragged, renegade Mistula crew are experienced with commercial TV production, their experience is mostly spent lounging behind the camera telling various people what to do over platter after platter of snacks served to them by production assistants. Have them do the actual work – now there lies the big problem. And have them make four BJDs act – an even bigger problem. And the biggest problem of all: How can the struggling indie band Mistula produce a five-minute music video without a budget?

But if there’s anything that propels our crew to action, it’s LOVE FOR THE CHALLENGE. So armed with equipment borrowed from several friends and a bag full of junk food, they invaded Jojo Tatlonghari’s photography studio and with his HD camera, filmed the first-ever music video for the Philippine’s only virtual band – and promptly failed.
The Second Sorrowful Mystery: The Scourging At Tatlonghari Studio
Marco, whose career in advertising is punctuated by trophies, fumbled with the perplexing HD camera. Edith is an expert on the camera – but only the kind that requires the subject to freeze and say Cheese! Joey, zombiefied after a week of overtime, was “running on reserve battery” which promptly ran out around four o’clock in the morning. (She was later found lying unconscious beside a petrified Dragan.) Rey, self-proclaimed executive producer of the project, did not even know how to make a proper clapper and kept wandering into the set while the filming was in progress. Thus, when the editor saw the footage they shot and lost a night’s sleep for, he said no, sorry, we have to reshoot.
Luckily, Rainier Pengson, the editor who is also a director (multitaskers abound in this part of the world) took interest in the project after seeing the raw footage, and heartily stepped in. With his cinematographer-partner, Gary Gardoce, they filmed most of what you are about to see on the Black Rosary-exclusive video premiere this coming All Souls’ Day. Rainier and Gary saw the video through to editing, and while Marco drew the plan for them, they deserve every applause and hallelujah. Glory be to you, Rainier and Gary.
Mulat, the music video, is a gift to Mistula from the people who believed in an idea so much they gave it heart and soul. In its creation, friendships were sealed, and lessons learned (1. Never switch a 12 watt light bulb in a 220 volt socket or it will explode in your face, 2. Never let Uno’s hair steal the show and; 3. Never leave Manx alone with Marco). For us, the fun of doing what has never been done before is enough reward for all the hard work. Thank you, ragged renegade Mistulads. We hope to work with you again next time. And hopefully, there shall be more in store for us than just free donuts.

I absolutely loved the video (Uno and Lugosi looked exceptionally hot in the darkness!) – Although this is my first time listening to a song in filipino language, I really like the style of the music!
