Truth and Myth: A Secret Diary Entry by Veritas

His name means “Wolf”. And he lived up to it.
He was the only family I knew. He is five years older than I am, reckless, quick-tempered and irrationally protective of his “little sister”. He left school for the streets because he said he will not learn things sitting down. He sought the wild, found himself among the lawless, survived one brawl after the next. The bloodthirsty hunted him down, and he fought them all – sometimes winning, sometimes losing, always living to fight the next fight. Those who respected him for his grit and mettle fought with him, and soon, he was surrounded by his own pack.
I, on the other hand, stayed at home, surrounded by computers. He won’t have it otherwise.

As my brother’s comrades grew in number, the pack became became braver and fiercer. They became obsessed with bloodsports and staged the most brutal underground cage fights, watched avidly by the wealthy and perverted. They experimented with dangerous substances, and discovered a drug that made them stronger and faster. With it, they became monsters at the arena – ruthless, fearless, invincible. That drug, they called Full Moon, and my brother’s pack, they became known as the Lycantroops.
He told me he fights for me. I believed him. With his prize money, I was able to acquire the most advanced computer hardware and learned to be a hacker.

My brother took the tiny, terrible pill every night, and reveled in the power it gave him. Without it, he said, he feels weak and cowardly. The drug soon affected his memory, and sometimes he can barely recognize me. The moment I saw insanity in his bloodshot eyes, I knew – I was losing my brother to the Full Moon.

He began calling me Little Lamb. While he was away on one of the Lycantroop’s bloody binges, I hacked into his bank and transferred all of his money into my account. Then, I called the police and anonymously gave full information on the Lycantroop’s illegal underground activities. The next day, amidst the sirens and gunshots, I left my brother to the law. I believed I saved him.
The police, I was told, closed down the Lycantroop’s fighting den and sent them to an undisclosed facility for “treatment”. They were reported to be violent and insane, under the influence of an unknown powerful chemical. The Full Moon had changed my brother, the only family I knew.

The years took me to Tokyo, then Memphis and finally, Manila. My brother is still confined in a treatment facility in London, trapped like I was then. I hope he is well. I hope he forgives me. I hope he never finds me.
His name is Lobo. And I, Veritas, am his prey.

Lobo’s tattoo, the mark of the Lycantroops, is an original design especially created for him by the Filipino street artist, Fabo. To view more of Fabo’s work, CLICK HERE.

March 24th, 2006 - 18:02
You follow us so closely I’m starting to feel a little anxious about loopholes and inconsistencies.
But I appreciate it, really. Thank you.
And yeah, you are right about Lobo.
March 24th, 2006 - 04:46
This is so brilliant and well-thought of. Such an intriguing character with a riveting story. The term “Full Moon” in reference to a lycanthropy-inducing drug is pure genius.
March 24th, 2006 - 18:04
That’s too much credit than we deserve, but thank you. I’m glad you enjoy seeing what I enjoy doing.

March 26th, 2006 - 01:08

March 26th, 2006 - 06:29

AAIIEE! No worries, Mia, he’s only after me! In which case … *faints*
March 24th, 2006 - 11:09
That Lobo… he makes me think of fond Guitar Wolf memories. Aroooooooooooo…
March 27th, 2006 - 12:11
What, Guitar Wolf the Japanese band in wifebeaters and leather? Hell, no! This one belongs to an eighties glam rock hair band!
March 24th, 2006 - 12:05
Oh myyyyyy….*_* I’m sorry Veritas, but I am highly looking forward to seeing more of this brother of yours. >D
Seriously, his hair even looks like a weapon. I bet the tips could slice someone open. XD
March 27th, 2006 - 12:16
SEND TERRANOVA HERE NOW! Oh wait. She might take his side. Arrrgggh.
March 30th, 2006 - 06:01

March 24th, 2006 - 14:32
You did the right thing Veritas. *pat pat*
March 27th, 2006 - 12:17
If I didn’t know that you always make a conscious effort to be different from the rest, I would thank you, Annie.
March 24th, 2006 - 18:29

March 24th, 2006 - 22:30
Love the shot where he’s looking up ^o^
Cool tattoo! What kind of ink did Mr. Fabo use?
March 27th, 2006 - 15:23
Fabo’s afraid to work “on valuable items” so I painted his design on Lobo with acrylic paint.
March 24th, 2006 - 22:45
Wooooah… Veritas, you got a wild brother there. O.O Though he doesn’t seem as crazy/scary now… Maybe you’ll be alright?
March 27th, 2006 - 15:24
Maybe. BUT I’M NOT TAKING ANY CHANCES.
March 27th, 2006 - 18:00

And much love for Fabo’s design. It’s amazing.

March 27th, 2006 - 15:30
People are strange.
March 25th, 2006 - 06:54
The history you’ve created for him is pure genius. Werewolf folklore, Jekyll and Hyde, and a little Frankenstein all rolled into one (gorgeous) character! Can’t wait to see how he fits into the main story ^_^
March 27th, 2006 - 15:32
Aw, thank you, Lauren!
March 25th, 2006 - 13:16
Quick, Veritas! Sign yourself up for a Witness Protection Program!
March 27th, 2006 - 15:35
And let myself be cornered? NO. Besides, I don’t trust Philippine law. Wait, is there such a thing as Philippine law?
March 27th, 2006 - 19:29
“Philippine law” is an oxymoron.
March 25th, 2006 - 18:25
Veritas, next time, tell your brother not to insert a fork in the wall socket. Hah! Touche, Lobo!
*runs and hides*
March 27th, 2006 - 20:13
You tell him.
March 26th, 2006 - 19:20
wow..you’ve done something grea, Veritas! im sure Lobo isn’t that mad at all for he knows that you’ve done what you’ve done for his own good. take care!
March 28th, 2006 - 18:14
Thing is, does he know that? He is most often not quite himself.
March 26th, 2006 - 19:22
wow..you’ve done something great, Veritas! im sure Lobo isn’t that mad at all for he knows that you’ve done what you’ve done for his own good. take care!
March 27th, 2006 - 20:57
