We were THIS CLOSE – this close to an all-expense-paid vacation in Tenerife!
I can’t believe it.
I can’t believe it either! We won! I’m calling Dragan.
Number 4 isn’t that bad. It was our first time at the competition. But dammit, the top spot is so close I can almost touch it.
So far away. Gone. Just like that.
DRAGAN! WE WON! Can you believe it?! Are you sorry for leaving Mistula too soon? You can always come back, you know.
We have to work harder. We’ll do better next time.
We’re almost there. I know we can do it .
There was nothing I could do.
I promised I won’t let anybody hurt her. But how can I protect her from herself?
You have to stop slacking around, Uno! We have to practice every single freaking day. And night. It’s not easy going up against humans but we almost did it and we’re not about to stop at number 4.
What did I do wrong?
You’re too small? You’re too foreign? You’re not human? Beats me. But I’ll beat those humans, damn if I don’t.
Put Damien on the line! DAMI! We won! Yeah! Oh, I can’t marry you yet! It’s hard to play the guitar when you’re pregnant!
Should I call for help?
Black Rosary supported us all the way, but in the end, it’s really up to us.
Ceras! We won fourth place in the Overplay Play & Rate international competition! Aren’t you proud of your sister? I’m so much more respectable now!
Hey, where’s our groupie Veritas? Does she know we won?
We lost Veritas. She ran away.
What? Why? Her brother has selective amnesia and – we won! She should come back here and cheer for us!
She’s in no mood to celebrate. She’s hurt and confused. She thinks we’re better off without her, now that Lobo’s here. She said she’s putting our lives in danger.
That’s bollocks, as Lobo would say. I’m calling her now.
Maybe Uno should fake a British accent like the Orange and Lemons*.
What the hell.

Leave her alone. She needs to think on her own.

Hello, Sei? WE WON! Not the lottery, silly, the Overplay Play & Rate competition! It’s not a beauty pageant, no, it’s a music contest. In the UK. Yeah! No, we didn’t get money – do you think we’d be indie if we wanted money?
There are things much more important than money.
Like people who inspire you to be bigger than you are.
Who’s this? Si Ye? Oh, thanks. But no thanks. Lugosi? You can’t have him. Bye!

*Orange and Lemons is a popular local band. They call themselves “Blokes from Marikina”.
The former Mistula rhythm guitarist, Dragan, and Manx’s lover, Damien are now in the UK with Sam. Manx’s half-brother, Ceras, is just a few hours drive away with Yapi. Sei and Si Ye share a house in Singapore with with Djinn and Mae.
Manx’s spiderweb dress is a gift from Judy of Bittenbefore. Her sparkly kitty necklace is a handmade token from Bernadette. Uno’s favorite shirt is a pasalubong from Mrs. Nicky Rhodes! How lucky are we to have such thoughtful friends like you?
