Summer Never Ends

I rightfully claim this Chocolate Hill in the name of Veritas!

I later found out that the Chocolate Hills aren’t really made of chocolate. They’re made of limestone – ptooey! And they only look like chocolate mounds in the summer. During rainy season, they look like the Jolly Green Giant’s pimples.

This is what a tarsier looks like during sunny season.

During summer, thousands of tourists (most of them Koreans) flock to torment the smallest primate in the world right in its natural habitat.

The tarsier is a shy, nocturnal animal, but the paparazzi does not care about its privacy or sleeping hours. I will not be surprised if the poor thing goes wild, does drugs and becomes anorexic.

Even this barn owl is wide awake – and it’s way past its bedtime.

Oh look, a Flying Lemur! Or is it a Hanging Lemur?

Crikey! Look at this beauty! Manx’s Slash will look like a worm next to this ball python!

Now this is the country’s largest snake in captivity, the 21-foot reticulated python absurdly named Prony.

Like Slash, Prony has his own Eve – who has swallowed Adam’s apple.

After giving a short lecture about Prony, he/she does a heartfelt lipsynch of Mariah Carey’s “Hero”. Swallow that.

Now this is a sight for sore eyes: the waterfalls at the Loboc river.

The Loboc River band plays folk tunes from their floating stage that is also a souvenir shop.

ZOMBIES! Shoot them in the head! Run in zigzag pattern!

And these, ladies and gentlemen, are the wonders of Bohol. I am your tour guide, Veritas, and this is my Chocolate Hill!
NEXT UP: THE BEACH!

Whew, that was tiring. Let’s take a break before we move on, okay?
It is no longer summer in the Philippines but here, the sun can shine whenever we want it to. Welcome to Fully Articulated, virtual tourist.
Veritas’ ball cap with the letter P (for Perfect, says she) is a gift from Mommy Amy.

Stop making me want to visit you, Joey! You know I can’t afford it! T_T
August 2nd, 2007 - 19:50
Oh, but if you really wanted to, you can. Besides, Uno wants to meet you.
July 31st, 2007 - 02:50
It looks lovely!! Wish I was there!
You’re adorable in Pink, Veritas.
July 31st, 2007 - 11:03
you’re right she is so pretty in that sissy dress!
July 31st, 2007 - 12:15
Dear boy, you are asking for trouble.
August 2nd, 2007 - 19:52
Thanks, Bunny! Thanks, Mathilde!
July 31st, 2007 - 02:59
Lovely pictures. The owl is so cute!!
(Ramon has the same hat in yellow, and I always thought the P stands for “perfect” too X3)
August 2nd, 2007 - 23:42
When we saw it, it was jumping up and down like it was exercising – which I thought was adorably funny.
I think the P on Veritas’ hat stands for “Presumptuous”, but she refuses to acknowledge my opinions.

“I will not be surprised if the poor thing goes wild, does drugs and becomes anorexic.”
Hahahaha xD You’re so funny! Go Veritas! You’re the dream tour guide, love you!
August 2nd, 2007 - 23:44
Call me when you decide to visit the Philippines!
July 31st, 2007 - 04:24
This is so amazing. I wish I lived somewhere as beautiful as that. Or rather, as beautiful in my eyes, I guess some people would think here is wonderful. xD
I need to take Haku or Gally to Ein Gedi.
… if Magpie feels like doing a little ‘bikur moledet’ (visit to the homeland), she can always stay here. xD
It’s low profile, the Mossad will never guess.
August 2nd, 2007 - 23:50
That’s a very good insight, Jun. There is beauty in everything – it’s just a matter of finding it.
Magpie has this nagging suspicion that someone from the Mossad is reading this blog.
July 31st, 2007 - 04:47
Ah it looks so beautiful
Lovely pictures, thank you for sharing
August 2nd, 2007 - 23:54
Thank you, Claudia. I do wish to visit your lovely country someday, too. I’m sure every corner is picture-perfect.
July 31st, 2007 - 11:05
the tarsier on the third photo seems to be lonely!
July 31st, 2007 - 12:28
Did He/She really lipsynched to a song? O_O my golly… that is a site to behold. A bohol, sbi ko na nga ba na I should have convinced my family to go there. Oh well, atleast I have plans na for next year. ^^v
Thanks for taking up in your virtual tour Veritas and again nice pictures Miss Joey.
August 3rd, 2007 - 00:00
YES, HE DID LIPSYNCH. Twice. To Mariah Carey’s “Hero” and Whitney Houston’s “One Moment In Time”. We were thunderstruck. I think Rey has a video stashed somewhere, but you have to go see it yourself.
You’re always welcome, JJ.
August 3rd, 2007 - 14:39
hahaha. Thats it, Bohol is booked for next year. now to think of a song that I will request him to sing. heeheehee
August 4th, 2007 - 02:33
How about Macho by Hagibis?
August 4th, 2007 - 06:56
hahahahahha. Tama! thanks so much Veritas. hala! I imagined him singing that song already.
July 31st, 2007 - 13:58
Sun-dappled Veri! ⊂二二二( ^ω^)二⊃
August 3rd, 2007 - 00:01
Biased Daddy!
July 31st, 2007 - 15:43
That place looks awesome.
… I’m still trying to figure out if that person is a he or a she… o___o
That barn owl’s beautiful
August 3rd, 2007 - 00:11
It’s a zoo with a freak side show. It’s both entertaining and disturbing.
That person is a man with pink lipstick. He sort of reminded me of a BJD with a bad face-up.
July 31st, 2007 - 15:50
Now I wanna go to Bohol! @o@
August 3rd, 2007 - 00:13
You should visit as many islands as you can! It just might help you learn to speak our language.
July 31st, 2007 - 17:21
It looks like you took the same tour route as us when my mom and I went to Bohol. There is also supposed to be a pure white cockerel with a red plume in the cage right beside Prony’s. I wonder, is it still there?
Funny, when we encountered the Loboc River band, they weren’t playing folk tunes. They were playing the Arirang theme. XD;;;
August 3rd, 2007 - 00:22
Really? I’ve been to Bohol thrice, and it’s always a different route every time. The Chocolate Hills and Loboc, of course, are mandatory.
Sigh. I think they were playing the Arirang theme for the 999,999 Koreans who may overwhelm us any moment now. I heard they even have a community in Batanes. Maybe it’s time to rebuild the Katipunan!
August 5th, 2007 - 10:17
They have a community in BF Homes. *wears tin foil hat* I see Koreans everywhere!
July 31st, 2007 - 20:53
What a beautiful view you got there!!!
August 3rd, 2007 - 00:25
Thank you!
July 31st, 2007 - 22:08
Wow! So much have changed in Bohol… I miss it especially now that I’ve seen the Loboc river again and I’ m reminded that I’ m miserable because I’m stuck at school!
August 3rd, 2007 - 00:28
Oh, are you Boholano? You have a beautiful hometown.
July 31st, 2007 - 23:27
I’ve always looked forward to Veritas’ travels, and her commentaries. I think she’d make a great travel show host.:D
tarsiers are love. I hope they won’t go mad though.
August 3rd, 2007 - 00:35
Haha! I don’t think Veritas can be as opinionated on the telly. Same for Uno, who was actually offered a hosting job. I should’ve taken it just to see what a fool they will make of him.
I’m very worried about the tarsiers.
Some tourists don’t even bother to turn off their flash.
August 5th, 2007 - 08:16
*imagines Veritas and Uno doing a talkshow* That would be a riot. Somehow I imagine them throwing witty remarks back and forth.XD Maybe the TV execs would make Uno wear a suit and make him try to look like the Gutierrez twins? *shudders at the thought*
aw. Freedom is the right of all sentient beings. Free the tarsiers!:D
August 1st, 2007 - 18:55
whhhhaahhhhahaha i love the pics!!!!
i dont know why.. is it because of the beautiful scenery or (the lipsynch) Mariah Carey ??
(nice colored lipstick) :3
August 1st, 2007 - 22:44
P for pink.
Tarsier!!!! lovely lovely creature! do they sell those tarsier plushis/keychain/magnet? XDDD that barn owl is really beautiful!
Veritas = P for panalo!
August 3rd, 2007 - 00:39
They still sell the tarsier souvenirs, but there seems to be an obvious decline in quality.
I think the influx of tourists have forced them to do mass production. The tarsier plushie I bought a few years ago is so much better than the one I got now!
August 2nd, 2007 - 15:39
Lol. Zig-zag pattern. xD
August 3rd, 2007 - 00:46
It also works for dinosaurs.
August 3rd, 2007 - 18:53
Don’t think it’ll work on the newer sequel installments tho. =/
August 4th, 2007 - 02:30
No, I’m talking about the real ones.
August 4th, 2007 - 09:06
I love it!!! We went to bohol once… What a nice view,,,top it all with the ever adventurous Veritas,,, *sigh* what can be more perfect than that?
August 6th, 2007 - 15:44
real, breathing, dinosaurs would be amazing to look at!!
but i can’t handle it.. (i think Veritas can.. lol~)
August 7th, 2007 - 00:24
wah… why did everyone go to Bohol for the weekend? Visit Cebu for the UP Cook Out this friday
we’d be happy to tour you!!!
August 13th, 2007 - 21:16
haha you go ara!!!
August 7th, 2007 - 02:58
*_*! The chocolimestone hills look like the cocoa country (err, I’ve forgotten the actual name) in Mario Kart.
Lovely wildlife, of all varieties… (but why zombies?)
August 16th, 2007 - 16:11
I went to bohol (and Cebu) just this past summer! XD Whahahaha….
Wala lang.
But wait, aren’t tarsiers the most emo animals on earth? I hear they commit suicide (by head-banging the nearest hard surface) with the smallest pressure/stress… @_@
I guess they just weren’t cut out to be a rockstar like all of you. XP
