Here’s to a brighter future!
Manikako, Future Ko! A Fund-Raising Doll Fair is now ongoing at The Podium in Ortigas Center. Our very own Mistula Tribute Band will cap the week with a special song of thanks for all the kind souls who made this event possible.

The fair started last Saturday with the exhibit and auction of 100 dolls designed by renowned Filipino personalities, among them National Artists Napoleon Abueva and Abdulmari Imao.

The exhibit was opened with a performance of the Pangalay, traditional dance of Sulu, by dance scholar Ligaya Fernando-Amilbangsa and the ethnic music ensemble Kontra-Gapi.

Prof. May Datuin, founder of Manikako’s mother NGO, House of Comfort Art Network (ArtHOC), welcomed guests with a story of art and healing.

Artist-critic Cid Reyes led the auction. Most of the dolls were sold, with the highest bid going to Michael Cacnio’s kite-flying doll titled “Playtime”.

Sunday is doll-making time! The week-long workshops began with the girls who started it all, BJD enthusiasts and veteran Manikako volunteers, ManikaManila.

A far cry from its first booth at last year’s Toycon, the Manikako workshop now spanned the entire Podium lounge.

Manikako volunteers even have cute aprons designed by Manikako seamstress, Gabie Osorio!

Jan, booth supervisor, kept an eye out for kids who thought the dolls on exhibit were toys.

Cute dolls attracted cute customers! TV actress Janice de Belen’s pretty daughters each got a Manikako Do-It-Yourself kit.

It was a very busy day, with people from all walks of life flocking to the fair to buy Manikako merchandise, view the exhibit or learn to make dolls at the workshop.

Our talented designers can help you turn a Manikako into your favorite character, like this bratty little Lugosi for Kishi.

The hardworking Feliz sold Manikako merchandise until she no longer can. (Her brain conked out around 9:45PM.)
But the Manikako Doll Fair is far from over! Today, the creatives from Y&R Philippines will head the workshop, followed by book illustrators from Ilustrador ng mga Kabataan, on Thursday and the young designers, Superficial Girls, on Friday. The graffiti crew Pilipinas Streetplan and needlecraft hobbyists from Sewing Circle took over last Monday and Tuesday’s workshops, respectively.

On Saturday, all the artists and volunteers will gather to celebrate a job well done. The Manikako theme song, Salamat Sa Iyo, Manikako!, will be performed by the Mistula Tribute Band with Vim Nadera, multi-awarded writer and father of performance poetry, with the children from the Manikako Cambridge workshop. Joining the party are Cynthia Alexander, Moonstar88, Susan Magno, Ciudad, Nityalila, Sruvaleh, Rinka Collective and Miko Pepito.
See you at the fair!

“A far cry from its first booth at last year’s Toycon, the Manikako workshop now spanned the entire Podium lounge.” –> Yup Yup! ^^ More room to move around and more for the volunteers to do their work. (Busy Bees!)
3 Enjoyable things that I saw/observed that Sunday.
3. Man-man (who was being raped by a kid)
2. People coming in waves to support the event.
1. Miss Joey and Bea (I think her name was Bea, my apologies if i got it wrong) were thought to be Japanese by some people. I can even hear them conversing in Japanese.
^^
February 24th, 2008 - 23:31
Yep, you got my name correctly. Hehe… XD Amazing, really, since there were a lot of us that day… @_@;
March 3rd, 2008 - 01:46
So that’s why you were standing quietly in one corner – you were observing!
The guest who mistook us for Japanese wouldn’t believe we weren’t! She kept saying “Uso!” whenever I told her I am Filipino.
Yes, a lot of kids did rape Man-Man. We shouldn’t have left him lying around invitingly like that.
