The Big Little Bubble Lady

Fabo climbed a 20-foot scaffolding to paint the Shelf’s center of attraction, the Big Little Bubble Lady. For friends, he did it without fee, safety net or insurance. Humans are wonderful that way.

Fabo is no stranger to our strange ideas. He has collaborated with Mistula for the Pista Ng Patay web launch, designed Lobo’s tattoo and is one of our fiercest critiques. I believe I will never be who I am today if not for his daily potshots: “Uno, the shirt is too Eighties”, “Real men do not wear Skechers”, “What’s with the white socks?!” or “Rockstars always wear their jeans low, take it from Led Zep!”
Fabo, you’re going down. But not until you finish that mural.

Like a true street artist, Fabo used leftover paint and spray cans salvaged from our backyard. It took him half a day to finish the entire artwork, and that already includes skating around the neighborhood, gossiping with Joey and feasting on delivery fast food.

The Big Little Lady blows bubbles that are frozen into lamps that light the entire house. Her bubbles reflect Joey on skateboard, Rey on keyboards and the in-house comic duo, Puchikuchi. Most of our guests reckon she’s a cartoon version of Joey, but very soon you’ll find out that she’s character all her own.

Fabo climbed down the scaffolding at two in the morning, tired but happy. He left the Shelf its biggest conversation piece. Krizette Laureta Chu talked about it in the May issue of Sense&Style magazine, along with our home’s many other “curiosities”.

And if you’re curious about Fabo’s fabulous art, some of it is on display at DeviantArt and Multiply. Our favorite is his heartfelt and controversial depiction of Dubai on discarded cardboard boxes: CLICK HERE.
Thanks, Fabo. You rock.

Fabo has 100 points of articulation! Or maybe more.
May 24th, 2009 - 00:45
Fabo really has contributed a lot to Mistula’s creation, hasn’t he?
For some reason, the Big Little Bubble Lady reminds me of Duende…
May 27th, 2009 - 14:23
Oh yes, Mistula is powered by friends like Fabo. We exploit them all the time.
Who’s Duende?
May 27th, 2009 - 17:29
Oh, never mind. I just wish to see it in person one day.
May 24th, 2009 - 00:47
WHOAH! AWESOME!
Fabo rocks!
So! Miss Joey must be look like Big Little Bubble Lady eh? ^_^
May 27th, 2009 - 17:33
I guess. Because Joey always has pigtails and likes traipsing around in boots.
And Fabo is most awesome when he is not dissing my outfit.

Is it me or is the second to the last pic is weird? The lower half of his body is positioned pointing to the right while his upper half points to the left… I’ve been staring at it for a while
@_@

I’ve said it before, and I’ll say it again (many many times I’m sure) – Joey, your house is such a breathtaking experience! It’s so amazing to watch it come together in photos, I can only imagine what a wonderful space it must be to live in. I love how absolutely whimsical and personal all your decorations are, and they must be absolutely heartwarming to come home to knowing that all your friends helped create them.
Fabo’s bubble lady is absolutely glorious, and I love it in that room with all the lights that look like free-floating bubbles! I must know what function that particular room is for because I can’t imagine getting anything done with such a fanciful environment surrounding me. XD Fabo’s work is incredible and I’m glad to hear no one was hurt during his painting adventure!

I’ve always been curious as to why there’s a faded plant painted behind the big bubble lady. hehehe
