Fragile Life
Last Saturday, a crestfallen Gabie called to tell us that Slash has passed away.
He was Manx’s pet and much-loved snake. When we moved to the Shelf, Slash moved in with Gabie’s boyfriend, Leo, who is also a musician (he plays the keyboard for the band Corporate Lo-Fi). Leo cared for the little green snake well; he bred fish so he will not run out of food, and even caught tiny frogs for Slash after Joey told him that an all-fish diet will cause thiamine deficiency. Slash lived with him for two years until he decided it was time to go to Paradise City, where the grass is green and the girls are pretty.

Manx is inconsolable. I assured her that Slash has lived the good life. Other ribbon snakes are not as fortunate, ending up on Iwa Moto’s head or worse, inside a cobra enclosure in Avilon Zoo. Joey rescued him from certain death twice, Leo spoiled him to no end, and Manx, she will love him forever.
Slash is immortalized in Mistula’s video, Baptized.
Goodbye, dearest Slash. You are finally free. But we will keep you in our hearts for as long as we live.

Even Reaiah is saddened at the news of Slash’s passing
, as I am too. We send our heartfelt condolences to the crew, especially to Manx who love him the most.
(Though…the mere thought of him now slithering happily though the green green grass of Paradise City does help ease the pain.

Slash had the love of all you guys – Manx Minuet, Joey, Leo, Gabie – his time on earth must’ve been one of the most blessed green ribbon snakes can possibly lead. Our animals make the best-est friends but alas, they leave too quickly. Don’t be thinking ‘what if’ thoughts, Manx. Just remember the good times.
