And that is what you call kickflip to backside grab to frontside boardslide to hang ten nosemanual to splat.
Joey’s skateboarding career ended in a bloody spill at the foot of Antipolo hills. After that, her mother banned extreme sports. She was 14. (In a fit of rebellion, she tried snowboarding in Japan years later, failed miserably and realized that mothers really know best.) Veritas picked up where she left off. At 14, she claims to be a much better skater than Joey, who can only ollie occasionally and do a sketchy nosemanual. But just like any other skater, better or poser, she’s bound to encounter a kink on the road.
In skateboarding, a kink is an unavoidable obstacle – a sudden bend, a tiny stone – that keeps a skater down-to-earth.
Joey’s ride, Mr. Roots, is no stranger to kinks.
Every skater will fall. It’s inevitable. Even the Birdman kisses the concrete once in a while. The trick is to always get up, blink back your tears (it’s totally uncool to cry), ignore the road rash and skate on.
Do not skate without a helmet. Veritas didn’t. Look what happened to her.

I’ve been skating since I was a kid, but I never learned how to ride a bike. I always thought because it only has two wheels, it’ll be harder to balance on it!

Veritas is using a Tech Deck hand board. This one was given to us by a friend, and I’m not sure where they’re sold here. Maybe in Toy Kingdom?

I went to check Aloha Board Sports(?). Turns out, they’re out of stock. The only ones they have now only come with a specific kind of shoe.
And it seems it really IS only for SD’s and up. So sad.

It’s her older twin brother Freyr… When he finally gets here in a year or two, he’ll probably spend almost all of his time watching his sister. I want him to at least be recreational.
His character hasn’t been able to make a single proper decision for himself since he was captured by the darkness when he was 3.

Oh, you shouldn’t give up after one fall! I know people who’ve been skating for years and they still go splat once in a while. It’s normal!

I actually fell flat on my butt a lot of times, so I figured it isn’t for me.XD But I do know how to ride a bike and can pull some stunts (er, mostly involving broken brakes and oncoming vehicle avoidance lol). Maybe you can teach me how to skate, I’ll teach you how to ride a bike.

Let me a find an SD-sized BMX first. The SD-sized vintage bikes I’ve seen are not exactly my style.
And it’s Joey who doesn’t know how to ride a bike, not me. But she’s not in the perfect shape for bike lessons right now.

Magpie used to be Mossad special agent (but don’t quote me on that) so she knows how to do a sling to an arm that has been twisted by an assassin or fix a shrapnel wound sustained from a bombing. You learn a lot from war.

Ah, yes. Veritas and my “niece” Namiko should get together sometime and skate at Pedlow here in the San Fernando Valley. http://www.laparks.org/dos/parks/pedlowSkatePK/pedlowskatepark.htm . They even have a “girls skate” hour where it’s just girls allowed in the park.
Nami-tan is the daughter of my boyfriend Zetto’s brother Junior Yamamoto. I’ll let the name sink in. Junior is a pro surfer. You might have heard of him. She’s so much her father’s daughter.
Yeah, Nami gets the occasional road rash but we don’t try to overprotect her. One thing that her grandfather Nobu — the parent whom she lives with — has been good about is that he believes in “free range kids.” http://freerangekids.wordpress.com/ He is extremely disapproving of overprotected and overscheduled children. “American yuppies treat their kids like VEAL. Is it any wonder they’re so neurotic and so obese?” No worries about Nami getting that way.
I mean, back where Nami grew up, in the South Bay town called Lawndale, CA, she had so many friends whose parents wouldn’t let them do anything risky. And every minute out of school is scheduled. Piano lessons Monday, Karate Tuesday, Soccer Wednesday and Saturday, etc. etc.
Kids need time to be themselves. I’m glad Veritas gets her chance to be herself and go out skating.
