Objects of Worship, The Making Of

Posted by Uno

June 6, 2009 was a very wet day. But that didn’t stop the Mistula crew from driving the slippery highways to Pampanga, a province two hours from Manila, known for its skilled sculptors and religious heritage. We had a deadline to catch. The editor-in-chief of Sense&Style magazine, AA Patawaran, wanted Mistula on the fashion spread for July, and he said the photos had to be in no later than June 10. It was going to be Mistula’s first time to appear on a fashion spread – and the first time for BJDs to be featured in a Philippine fashion magazine. So Joey, our virtual band manager, gathered the crew and had us rushing towards her hometown for a shoot worthy of Sense&Style’s Art issue.

NO TO INTERNET THEFT

Mistula is proud to have brilliant friends. They make miracles – like Baptized, the band’s latest video – possible.

Frontside 180 to Switch 50-50 to Art

Fabo may be too old to do a pop-shove-it backside noseslide, but he can do radical art on his skateboard. Just you watch.

My True eL

Posted by Uno

eL, the Mistula virtual bouncer, real and as fragile as a bouncer can be. I went out on a date with her a few days ago, and though there were so many things I wanted to tell her (like, “Do you sleep on your stomach? No? Can I?”), I wasn’t able to talk much. In fact, I wasn’t able to talk at all.

Sigh. I have always been shy around real girls.

eL owns Figures of Worship, the official Mistula fanlisting. She also owns a one-off Shiro who was oblivious to all the dagger looks I was throwing his way. What nerve!

Mistula On Film

Posted by Uno

While the ragged, renegade Mistula crew are experienced with commercial TV production, their experience is mostly spent lounging behind the camera telling various people what to do over platter after platter of snacks served to them by production assistants. Have them do the actual work – now there lies the big problem. And have them make four BJDs act – an even bigger problem. And the biggest problem of all: How can the struggling indie band Mistula produce a five-minute music video without a budget?

Screenshots from Mulat, the music video, which will be initially shown to Black Rosary members this November 2.
