In behalf of the entire Mistula crew (who cannot be bothered to pose for a group photo), we wish all of you the brightest this 2010!

2009 was an unforgettable year of great calamities, even greater heroes, staggering losses and profound gains. Come 2010, we hope fashion will be less embarrassing and pop literature more intelligent, and that humans finally live up to what is written on sci-fi novels. Year 2010 does sound futuristic – and optimistic. Let’s hope Sir Arthur C. At the 21st Philippine Advertising Congress in Subic Bay, Manikako was awarded a Gold in Integrated Campaign. Please give a warm round of applause to all the people who made these tiny dolls such a huge success!
Mistula roadie Rey also went up the stage to claim several trophies for his wins at BBDO-Guerrero. Congratulations, Rey!

Joey’s new office, TBWA\SMP, won Agency of the Year. Can you spot her on the above photo?

Joey thanks everybody who remembered her birthday last Thursday, October 22 – and thanks Facebook’s birthday alarm, too, or she wouldn’t have remembered it herself. Old age can take a toll on one’s memory, and Joey never had a good one to start off with.
This year, the first person to greet her at the stroke of 12 was Krishna – and she was also first last year. (Thank you, Krishna!) Rey has been disqualified on the basis of affinity, even if he started greeting Joey every single day for an entire week before her birthday. (Thank you, Rey. Sigh.)

Recently, Joey has grown to love gardening as old people are wont to. She claims to derive so much wisdom from planting seeds, trimming hedges and occasionally screaming at the sight of earthworms (which she is deathly afraid of). From gardening, she has learned that ‘a flower is a plant that rises above the weeds’ and ‘a coffee bean, when planted on a magnet mushroom, will disarm all the zombies’.*

Something tells me this isn’t going to be a restful weekend.
Last Saturday, Joey and Rey woke up to muddy water rushing into the Shelf. Powered by panic, they were able to lift and save most of the furniture from being soaked with newly discovered super-strength. Outside, streets became rivers and cars floated past. The neighbors shoveled water from second-floor balconies. Phones rang incessantly with worried messages from families and warnings from friends. All of this happened as we sat warm and cozy at the Mistula Complex, unmindful that the Philippines has been declared under a state of calamity.
